Dental implant study seeks best way to shape gums for lasting smiles

NCT ID NCT07031232

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at how the temporary piece placed on a dental implant during healing (called a healing abutment) affects the gum tissue around it. 75 adults getting a single implant will be split into three groups, each receiving a different abutment design: standard, wide, or custom-made using digital scans. Researchers will use 3D scans taken before surgery and at 3, 6, and 12 months after to measure changes in gum volume and thickness, aiming to find which design best preserves natural gum shape for better long-term results.
