Gum graft boost: could a blood concentrate make dental implants last longer?

NCT ID NCT07368621

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a substance made from the patient's own blood (leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin, or L-PRF) to a standard gum graft can improve gum thickness around dental implants. The trial will include 38 adults with thin gums who need a single implant. Half will get the standard graft, half will get the graft plus L-PRF. The goal is to see which approach gives thicker, healthier gum tissue.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

connective tissue graft with or without leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a better way to thicken gums around dental implants, potentially improving implant success and appearance.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 38 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure involves surgery and carries risks like pain, swelling, or graft failure.
