Cow heart tissue tested in battle against severe gum disease

Summary

This study is testing which of two materials works better to help regrow bone lost to severe gum disease in lower back teeth. Twenty patients will have surgery where a bone graft is placed and then covered with either a standard collagen membrane or one made from cow heart tissue. Researchers will measure gum health and bone regrowth over six months to see which membrane leads to better healing.
