Does a guidewire help IVs last longer? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT06107361

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looks at two types of long IV catheters—one with a built-in guidewire and one without—to see which one works better for patients with hard-to-find veins. About 360 adults will be randomly assigned to get one of the two catheters. Researchers will track how long each catheter lasts, how fast it is inserted, and how often it works on the first try.
