Researchers hunt for simpler way to monitor metabolism in ICU

NCT ID NCT07251764

Summary

This study aimed to understand if measuring the difference in glucose levels between a patient's blood and their body tissue could help doctors predict their metabolism and recovery chances. Researchers observed 140 critically ill adults in the ICU to see if this glucose gap was linked to how much energy their bodies used, their organ function, and whether they survived. The goal was to find a simpler, less invasive way to monitor a patient's metabolic health than current complex and expensive methods.
