Steroid shock: rapid stop may be as safe as slow taper
NCT ID NCT03153527
First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study compares two ways to stop long-term steroid treatment in adults with inflammatory or autoimmune diseases. One group stops immediately, while the other tapers down over 4 weeks. The goal is to see if rapid stopping is as safe and does not increase the risk of adrenal crisis, hospitalization, or death. About 530 participants will be followed to track these outcomes.
