Surgery safety alert: study tests when GLP-1 drug effects wear off

NCT ID NCT07360262

Summary

This study aimed to understand how long it takes for the stomach to empty normally after people stop taking GLP-1 drugs (like Ozempic or Wegovy) before surgery. Researchers used ultrasound scans on 186 adults scheduled for surgery to measure stomach contents at different times after their last dose. The goal was to gather evidence to help create safer, personalized guidelines for stopping these medications before anesthesia.
