Popular Weight-Loss drugs may pose hidden surgery risk

NCT ID NCT06814080

Summary

This study aims to understand if people taking GLP-1 drugs (like Ozempic or Wegovy) for diabetes or weight loss need to fast longer before surgery to be safe. Researchers will compare three different fasting times (8, 10, and 12 hours) in 45 adults having elective surgery. They will use an ultrasound to check if food or liquid is still in the stomach, which can increase the risk of breathing problems during anesthesia.
