Could a single shot before surgery shield your heart?

NCT ID NCT06324461

First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a single injection of a GLP-1 receptor agonist (a type of diabetes drug) given 1 to 14 days before planned non-cardiac surgery can reduce heart muscle injury. 372 adults having intermediate- to high-risk surgery will be randomly assigned to receive the drug or standard care. The main goal is to see if fewer people in the drug group have elevated troponin levels, a sign of heart damage.
