Doctors test 'Living Medicine' to fix lungs from within
NCT ID NCT05761899
Summary
This is the first human trial of a new therapy for hereditary pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (hPAP), a rare lung disease. Researchers will take a patient's own bone marrow cells, correct a faulty gene in the lab, and then transplant these 'fixed' cells back into the lungs. The goal is to restore the lung's natural cleaning system, potentially offering a long-term treatment alternative to repeated lung washing procedures.
