One-Shot gene injection aims to fix Radiation-Damaged saliva glands
NCT ID NCT02446249
Summary
This early-stage study is testing the safety of a single gene therapy injection for people with severe, permanent dry mouth caused by radiation treatment for head and neck cancer. Researchers are delivering a modified virus carrying a gene (AQP1) directly into one parotid saliva gland, hoping it will help the gland produce more saliva. The study will monitor 17 participants closely for three years to check for safety and see if saliva flow improves.
