Semaglutide users may have full stomachs despite fasting, ultrasound study finds

NCT ID NCT06292065

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looked at whether people taking semaglutide (a drug for diabetes and weight loss) have more food or liquid in their stomachs before surgery, even after following standard fasting rules. Researchers used ultrasound to compare stomach contents in 88 adults—some on semaglutide and some not. The goal was to see if the drug delays stomach emptying enough to change how anesthesiologists plan for surgery.
