Ultrasound reveals how ICU patients process liquid food

NCT ID NCT07352202

First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looked at how quickly the stomach empties in 60 intensive care patients who were on breathing machines and receiving liquid nutrition through a tube. Doctors used a bedside ultrasound to measure stomach volume at different times after feeding. The goal was to see if different types of liquid food affect stomach emptying, which could help improve feeding plans for critically ill patients.
