Heated chemo combo could tame stomach cancer spread
NCT ID NCT07178808
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase II trial is testing a two-step treatment for stomach cancer that has spread to the lining of the abdomen. First, patients receive chemotherapy and a minimally invasive heated chemo wash. Then, they undergo major surgery to remove visible tumors, followed by another round of heated chemotherapy. The goal is to see if this aggressive approach can improve how long patients live without their cancer growing back. The study is currently recruiting 30 adults with this specific type of stomach cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a way to control gastric cancer that has spread to the abdomen, potentially extending life for patients with limited options.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 30 participants. The treatment is intensive and carries risks from major surgery and chemotherapy. It may not work for everyone or may not improve survival overall.
