Summary

This study looked at how gastric bypass surgery changes the bacteria in the small intestine. Researchers measured hydrogen in the breath of 51 severely obese patients before surgery and at several points up to 2 years after. The goal was to find out how often bacterial overgrowth occurs and how it relates to digestion and nutrient absorption.
