Herbal tablet aims to reverse liver scarring in fatty liver disease
NCT ID NCT07663643
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether Fuzheng Huayu tablets, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, can reduce liver scarring in people with compensated cirrhosis caused by metabolic fatty liver disease. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either the herbal tablets or a placebo for 72 weeks. The main goal is to see if liver stiffness, measured by FibroScan, decreases by at least 20%.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Fuzheng Huayu Tablets (herbal medicine)
What this could lead to
If effective, this could offer a new treatment option to reduce liver scarring in people with fatty liver cirrhosis, potentially slowing disease progression.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 4 study, but the herbal supplement may not prove better than placebo. Results depend on liver stiffness measurements, which are indirect markers of fibrosis.
