Scientists track blood clues in deadly gut infections
NCT ID NCT03140748
Summary
This study aimed to understand if a blood marker called β-D-glucan could help doctors track serious fungal infections in the abdomen (peritonitis). Researchers measured this marker daily in 70 ICU patients who had abdominal surgery, comparing those with and without a fungal infection. The goal was to gather knowledge to potentially improve future diagnosis and treatment monitoring for these dangerous infections.
