Can a thigh sensor predict recovery in frail elderly patients?
NCT ID NCT04366388
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a small wearable sensor called ActivPAL can help measure frailty in hospitalized adults aged 65 and older. The sensor tracks how much time patients spend standing and walking. Researchers want to see if these simple measurements can predict important outcomes like length of hospital stay, readmission, and recovery. The goal is to find an inexpensive, easy way to assess frailty without complex tests.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ActivPAL3 VT wearable sensor
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide doctors with a simple, low-cost way to measure frailty and predict recovery in older hospitalized patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (120 participants) that only observes and measures. It does not test a treatment, so it cannot directly improve health.
