New drug combo tested to fight deadly tylenol overdose damage

NCT ID NCT05517668

Summary

This study tested whether adding a drug called fomepizole to the standard antidote (acetylcysteine) could better protect the liver in people who overdosed on acetaminophen (Tylenol). It involved 29 patients who were at high risk for serious liver injury because they received the standard treatment late. The trial was stopped early and did not complete its planned enrollment.
