Double method labor induction put to the test
NCT ID NCT07821099
First seen Sep 15, 2026 · Last updated Sep 16, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers are testing whether using a Foley catheter and a PGE2 vaginal pessary at the same time is better than using them one after the other to start labor. The trial enrolls 128 pregnant women at 37 to 42 weeks who need induction. The main measure is how many women deliver vaginally within 24 hours and how long that takes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A Foley catheter (a small balloon device) plus a PGE2 vaginal pessary (a hormone-softening insert)
- What this could lead to
- If the combined approach works better, it could give doctors a faster, more reliable way to induce labor at term and reduce the number of cesarean deliveries.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-center study of 128 women, so the results may not apply everywhere. Combining two ripening methods at once could also cause stronger contractions or other complications that the trial is designed to detect.
