Balloon method may replace rods for safer abortion prep
NCT ID NCT06850974
First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026
Summary
This study compares two ways to prepare the cervix before a second-trimester abortion (16-21 weeks). One method uses a Foley balloon plus a medication called misoprostol; the other uses thin rods called osmotic dilators. Researchers want to see if the balloon method works just as well, is faster, and makes patients and doctors more satisfied. About 102 women in Mozambique will take part.
