Carpal tunnel surgery put to the test: Placebo-Controlled trial aims to settle debate

NCT ID NCT06934187

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study aims to find out if carpal tunnel release surgery is truly effective for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) by comparing it to a placebo surgery. About 96 adults with CTS will be randomly assigned to receive either the real surgery or a sham procedure, and an additional group will be observed without surgery. Researchers will track symptoms like pain and numbness for up to five years to see if the surgery provides real benefits beyond a placebo effect.
