Could a quick radiation shot keep prostate cancer in check without surgery?
NCT ID NCT07152067
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a precise, focused radiation treatment (stereotactic body radiotherapy) to simply watching the cancer (active surveillance) in men with low-to-intermediate risk prostate cancer. The goal is to see if the radiation can reduce the number of men who later need stronger treatments like surgery or full radiation. About 146 men will take part, and the study is not yet recruiting.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a non-invasive way to lower the chance of needing more aggressive treatments later, while avoiding the anxiety of just watching the cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2 trial with only 146 participants, so results are preliminary. The treatment may not reduce rescue treatment rates as hoped, and there are risks of side effects from radiation.
