Poop pills plus immunotherapy: a new hope for melanoma that stopped responding?
NCT ID NCT06030037
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study aimed to see if adding a healthy donor fecal transplant (FMT) to standard immunotherapy drugs could help people with advanced melanoma that no longer responds to PD-1 inhibitors. The trial was planned for about 30 participants but was withdrawn before anyone enrolled. The idea was that changing the gut bacteria might boost the immune system's ability to fight the cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Healthy donor fecal microbiota transplant (hdFMT) plus pembrolizumab and lenvatinib
What this could lead to
If it had worked, this approach could have helped restore the effectiveness of immunotherapy in patients whose melanoma stopped responding to PD-1 drugs.
What could go wrong
The trial was withdrawn before enrolling any participants, so no results are available. The approach was still experimental, and adding a fecal transplant carries infection risks and unknown side effects.
