Poop pills join fight against colon cancer: new trial tests microbiome boost
NCT ID NCT07509398
First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding a fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) – a procedure that transfers healthy gut bacteria from a donor – to standard chemotherapy can shrink tumors more effectively in people with advanced colorectal cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. About 220 adults aged 18-75 who have not yet started first-line treatment will be randomly assigned to receive either standard therapy alone or standard therapy plus FMT. The main goal is to see if the combination leads to a higher rate of tumor shrinkage and possibly makes more tumors operable.
