Poop pills vs. superbugs: a new weapon against antibiotic resistance?

NCT ID NCT05742074

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tested whether transplanting healthy donor stool (fecal microbiota transplantation, or FMT) can eliminate multidrug-resistant organisms (MROs) from the intestines of 83 adult carriers. Participants swallowed capsules containing either donor stool or a placebo. The goal was to see if FMT could clear these superbugs and reduce the risk of future hard-to-treat infections.
