Brain scans reveal how lidocaine quiets ringing ears

NCT ID NCT04192773

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study uses brain scans (fMRI) to see what happens in the brain when people with tinnitus receive IV lidocaine, a medicine that can temporarily quiet the ringing. Researchers will compare scans before and after the infusion in 40 adults, including those with and without hearing loss. The goal is to identify which brain networks are involved in tinnitus, not to test a new treatment.
