Antidepressant pills may help rewire adult brains to fix lazy eye

NCT ID NCT07417046

Summary

This study is testing if adding a common antidepressant pill (fluoxetine) to the standard treatment of wearing an eye patch helps improve and maintain vision in adults with 'lazy eye' (amblyopia). Researchers will compare vision, eye scans, and brainwave tests in three groups: healthy eyes, eyes treated with just a patch, and eyes treated with a patch plus fluoxetine. The goal is to see if the drug helps the adult brain become more adaptable to recover vision, which was previously thought to be very difficult after childhood.
