Doctors test simpler scan to see who needs IV fluids
NCT ID NCT07202637
Summary
This study is testing a new ultrasound measurement to help doctors decide which critically ill patients will actually benefit from receiving intravenous (IV) fluids. Researchers will observe 205 patients in the ICU who have low blood volume and are receiving fluids. They will compare a standard heart ultrasound measurement with a potentially easier-to-perform lung artery measurement to see which better predicts a positive response to treatment.
