Deadly combo: severe flu opens door to fatal fungus

NCT ID NCT07330986

Summary

This study looked back at the medical records of 542 critically ill patients in China who had severe Influenza A (flu). Researchers wanted to understand why some of these patients also developed a dangerous fungal lung infection called aspergillosis, which is known to greatly increase the risk of death. By comparing patients with and without the fungal infection, the study aimed to identify the specific risk factors and outcomes to help doctors spot and treat this deadly combination earlier in the future.
