New drug combo aims to shield Kids' kidneys from rare disease
NCT ID NCT07315191
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding finerenone to standard blood pressure medication (ACEI/ARB) can better reduce protein in the urine of children with Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis and mild proteinuria. About 116 children aged 3 to 17 will take either finerenone plus ACEI/ARB or ACEI/ARB alone for 3 months. The goal is to see if the combination lowers kidney damage risk without serious side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
finerenone
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better treatment for children with mild kidney inflammation from Henoch-Schönlein purpura, potentially slowing or preventing kidney disease progression.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 116 children, so results may not apply to all patients. Finerenone may not reduce proteinuria more than standard care, and side effects are still being studied.
