Hidden diabetes epidemic uncovered in hospital ERs

NCT ID NCT04653545

Summary

This study aimed to find out how many people arriving at the emergency room or acute medical unit have undiagnosed diabetes or pre-diabetes. Researchers tested the blood of over 10,000 patients aged 30 and older who were already having blood drawn for their medical care. The goal was to see if this routine hospital visit is a good opportunity to screen for diabetes, so people can get the right treatment sooner and reduce their risk of serious heart problems.
