Fiber fight: can special nutrition unblock sedated ICU patients?
NCT ID NCT07201428
Summary
This study looked at whether adding fiber to liquid nutrition formulas could help prevent severe constipation in sedated patients on breathing machines in the ICU. Researchers compared fiber-containing formulas to fiber-free ones in 80 critically ill patients. The goal was to see if fiber could reduce this common and uncomfortable side effect of strong pain and sedation medications.
