First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study looked at whether adding fiber to liquid food given through a tube can reduce constipation caused by strong painkillers (opioids) in patients on breathing machines. 80 adults in the intensive care unit took part. The goal was to see if fiber helps them have their first bowel movement sooner and reduces the need for enemas.
