First seen Dec 15, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tested a protein called FGF-2 to see if it can close long-lasting holes in the eardrum. 52 adults with a dry eardrum hole for at least 6 months received either FGF-2 or a placebo. The main goal was to see if the hole closed completely. If the placebo didn't work, participants could later try FGF-2.
