Doctors test womb balloon to save babies with severe hernia

NCT ID NCT05450653

Summary

This is a small pilot study to test the feasibility of a fetal surgery called FETO for the most severe cases of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). The procedure involves placing a tiny, temporary balloon in the fetus's windpipe between 27-29 weeks of pregnancy to help the lungs grow before birth, with the goal of improving survival. The study will enroll 10 pregnant women and follow their children's health until age two.
