Doctors test womb surgery to save babies with severe lung condition

NCT ID NCT03138863

Summary

This study is testing a special surgery performed on babies while they are still in the womb. The surgery, called FETO, temporarily blocks the baby's windpipe to help their lungs grow bigger and stronger. Researchers want to see if this procedure is safe for both mother and baby and if it helps babies with a severe form of diaphragmatic hernia survive and breathe better after they are born.
