Doctors test 'Keyhole' surgery on babies in the womb to fix spina bifida

NCT ID NCT02390895

Summary

This study tested a new, less invasive way to perform surgery on babies in the womb to repair spina bifida. Instead of a large cut in the mother's womb, doctors used two small scopes to operate. The goal was to see if this method was possible and if it could reduce risks for the mother while potentially improving the baby's brain and spinal cord development.
