Zap to rebuild: electrical therapy aims to boost hand surgery recovery

NCT ID NCT03048331

Summary

This study tested whether using functional electrical stimulation (FES) before and after reconstructive hand surgery could help people with tetraplegia regain more arm and hand strength. Fifteen participants with spinal cord injuries were assigned to receive either standard therapy or standard therapy plus FES. The goal was to see if the added electrical stimulation improved muscle strength and functional outcomes like grasping.
