Poop transplants tested as treatment for Kids' mysterious gut pain

NCT ID NCT05753774

Summary

This study is testing whether transferring healthy gut bacteria from a donor (a fecal microbiota transplant) can help children with chronic functional gastrointestinal disorders—conditions like irritable bowel syndrome that cause ongoing stomach pain and bowel issues without a clear physical cause. Researchers will compare this transplant approach to standard treatments in 100 children, tracking changes in symptoms like pain, bowel movements, and sleep quality. The goal is to see if restoring balance to the gut's bacterial community can better control these difficult-to-treat conditions.
