Stool test may detect stomach cancer risk before symptoms appear
NCT ID NCT06943781
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new, non-invasive stool test that looks for specific gene changes in H. pylori bacteria linked to stomach cancer. Researchers will compare the test's accuracy with a standard risk questionnaire in 15,000 adults aged 40 and older. The goal is to see if this simple test can help catch gastric cancer earlier, when it's more treatable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Fecal Helicobacter pylori gastric cancer susceptibility gene test
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simple, non-invasive stool test to identify people at high risk for gastric cancer, enabling earlier diagnosis and treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on diagnostic accuracy, not treatment. The test may not prove reliable enough for widespread use, and results may not apply to all populations.
