Speedy stool tests aim to curb unnecessary antibiotics for sick kids

NCT ID NCT07280624

Summary

This study is testing whether getting rapid stool test results helps emergency room doctors better treat children with vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain. About 526 children under 16 visiting the ER will be randomly assigned to either get their stool test results immediately or after a 72-hour delay. Researchers will compare if the faster results lead to more appropriate antibiotic use, fewer unnecessary treatments, and better identification of serious infections needing follow-up.
