NCT ID NCT06586541
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether allowing family members to participate in daily ICU rounds—either in person or virtually—improves their engagement and satisfaction. Researchers will enroll 194 family members across 6 Canadian ICUs. The goal is to gather evidence that could make family participation a standard part of ICU care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Family participation in ICU rounds (in-person or virtual)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide evidence that family involvement in ICU rounds improves engagement and communication, potentially changing standard care practices.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with a moderate sample size, and results may not apply to all ICUs. The intervention is behavioral, so outcomes depend on individual experiences and may vary widely.
