Parents as partners: new study tests Family-Led care for tiny newborns

NCT ID NCT07364903

First seen Jan 25, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at whether involving parents directly in the care of their preterm or low-birth-weight babies in the hospital can lead to better outcomes. Over 1,000 newborns in Ethiopia will be split into two groups: one where families are trained and integrated into daily care, and one with standard care. Researchers will measure if the family-involved group has shorter hospital stays, better daily weight gain, and higher survival rates at discharge.
