Scientists test if masks make exercise harder for lung patients

NCT ID NCT05633017

Summary

This study aimed to understand how breathing through a resistance, similar to an N95 mask, affects exercise and feelings of breathlessness in people with chronic lung disease (COPD). 52 former rehab patients walked on a treadmill with and without the breathing resistance. Researchers measured their physical performance and their own reports of effort and shortness of breath to compare the two conditions.
