Could a simple vitamin pill supercharge eye injections?

NCT ID NCT07133438

Summary

This study is testing if adding an oral vitamin B12-based drug (mecobalamin) to standard anti-VEGF eye injections works better for treating retinal vein occlusion (RVO), a common cause of vision loss. The goal is to see if the pill can protect nerve cells in the eye while the injections reduce swelling, potentially leading to better long-term vision with fewer injections. 120 patients with RVO will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard injections plus the pill or the injections plus a placebo pill for six months, followed by a year of monitoring.
