New eye treatment combo aims to protect vision, reduce need for injections

NCT ID NCT07133438

Summary

This study is testing if adding an oral vitamin B12 pill (mecobalamin) to standard anti-VEGF eye injections helps people with retinal vein occlusion (RVO), a condition that causes vision loss from a blocked eye vein. The goal is to see if the combination better controls swelling, protects nerve cells in the eye, and improves long-term vision compared to injections alone. About 120 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the injections plus the vitamin pill or injections plus a placebo pill for six months, with follow-up for one year.
