New eye technique could speed healing after cataract complication

NCT ID NCT07364708

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new way to treat a detached Descemet's membrane, a rare complication after cataract surgery. Fifty patients aged 50-70 will be split into two groups: one gets a standard air injection into the eye, and the other gets a modified technique that first deflates the eye's front chamber before injecting air. The goal is to see which method reattaches the membrane more completely and quickly within the first week.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

intracameral air injection

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a safer, more effective way to reattach the eye's inner layer after cataract surgery, reducing recovery time.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Risks include infection, inflammation, or failure to reattach the membrane.
