Sedative tested to protect eyes during long spine operations

NCT ID NCT04628663

Summary

This study is testing whether a sedative drug called dexmedetomidine can help control pressure inside the eye during long spine surgeries. Patients having scheduled back surgery while lying face down will be randomly assigned to receive either the study drug or a saline placebo during their operation. Doctors will carefully measure eye pressure at multiple points to see if the drug makes a difference.
