Massive trial aims to stop dangerous eye infections after common surgery

NCT ID NCT03244072

Summary

This study is testing whether injecting a diluted antibiotic solution directly into the eye at the end of cataract surgery can prevent a rare but serious infection called endophthalmitis. It will involve 60,000 people undergoing cataract surgery, who will receive either the antibiotic or a placebo injection. Researchers will then monitor participants for one month to see if the antibiotic injection significantly lowers the infection rate.
